Check out Oakland's Art Murmur

Mayor Jerry Brown's plan to throw in 10,000 new Oakland Residents into the downtown area bears fruit every 1st Friday of the month. That's when art mongers go to various cafes and galleries to see art, and that art is a great way to kick off a new month.

The last Friday was no exception.

I checked out art at Ego Park, the Mama Buzz Cafe, the Esteban Sabar Gallery, and the Front Gallery. There was some art along Broadway, too:

I was doing some work in Laurel Heights this afternoon, and after work I had a total hankering for some comfort food.

$8.95 gets you a bowl of mac'n cheese that left me sated.

The Old Man Likes His Manicotti

Cafe Mondo on 602 Mission Street and 2nd Street is just a hop away from right after work hotspots like 111 Minna.

I had the manicotti special. It's not real, Italian manicotti, but it hits the spot for just under $8. Don't let the square of cheese melted on top deter you.
