I kno how you feel my friends laugh at me and think I am playing around but I really am scared of them...those beedy eyes and big teeth and how they move around so quickly im afraid they might attack me seriously....thank goodness im not the only one scared of them

i have dreams of them all the time my friends call me crazy but its crazy . theres one down the street that follows me home and throws nuts at me in the morning and i have dreams of them too finally theres other people that understand .

when i take my sister to the bus i make her chase them away for me. they do follow you everywhere and sometimes im even afraid to get into my car. they really make me sick to the stomach. god i hate them and those creepy eyes. ewwwwwww

I once was chased by a squirrel. Seriously. It was so scary. I thought that it was going to attack me. So ever since I've had an uncontrolable fear of those stupid rodents.

im not scared of many things, and i know i can defend my self but i cant stand the site of a squirrel. everyone laughs at me and it bothers me. they dont understand its not a game. i actually cry at the site of them. i used to not be afriad but one day in sacremento at capital park we were eatign slirpys and nachos and one of them tryed to take the food so we scared it off. the next thing i know i turned to get some nachos and theres a squirrel there again so dax tryed to scare it but it jumped on him. it started pulling his hair and stuff. i tryed to scare it off him and it jumped on me. i have a scar on my face from it. i spent 3 nights in the hostpital getting stiches n stuff cuz i got bit and scratched. im soo petrifyed of the m now and no one undertsands.

my many encounters with sqirrels: i had a dream of a squirrel eating my legs and another dream of a murderer and a squirrel chasing me around a movie theater. every time i get into the car and squirrels are around i lock my car door immediately. one time a few summers ago a squirrel came into my church when the door was open and i jumped up on a pew becuse i was so scared. one time when i was leaving my house my sister threw me her fuzzy scarf and i swore it was a squirrel jumping on me and i screamed my lungs out. one time i was playing soccer and some players on my team noticed a squirrel tail and i stomped on it. in first grade some boy told me he enjoyed getting bit by them and getting the shots. a squirrel got stuck in my friend's fireplace. I HATE SQUIRRELS!!!

I have always been uneasy around squirrels. One day I was climbing my grandmas tree, when I was about 6 and A squirrel was rading a birds nest. It jumped out of the nest. I was so scared that i fell out of the tree. Luckly, I wasnt very high in the air. Every once in a while after that I will have dreams of those scary rodents. My friends laugh at me, sure. But i really am afraid. They are so little and creepy. They have weird beady eyes that I feel are following me all the time. They just disturb me. Im glad there are others out there that feel the same way. Im glad to find out the name of this Phobia so I can prove to my friends that im not just joking around.

I am embarrased about my fear of squirrels. My fiance and friends think I'm crazy when I actively try to avoid them. Unfortunately, I live in NYC, so people and squirrels are in close proximity in City parks. I wish I could say that this fear is ridiculous, but after reading this article, I hardly think so:

My fear of squirrels started in childhood when I was at a friend's house. Her family took in an injured squirrel into their home. At their home, this injured squirrel caught me by surprise when it climbed up my leg and sat on my chest. It was frightening how close this squirrel was!

Anyway, I am happy to hear that other people also have this fear of squirrels. I would like to be cured of this phobia though -- Hope to be able to walk through a wooded area without having thoughts of a squirrel attacking me! While squirrel attacks have happened, they are so, so, so infrequent!!!!

I have always been scared of squirrels too. This fear has been compounded by a recent disturbing squirrel sighting. In an urban neighborhood park, I saw a squirrel jump on top of a baby carriage and scoured the carriage for food. Fortunately, there was no baby in the carriage. Nevertheless, it was a horrific site. What these despicable creatures will do for food!

wow, that's amazing to find out others feel the same as I do. I had a traumatizing experience as a young child, and have been extremelely frighteneed ever since. I was in the feedle position in the middle of a tent, with a wild squirrel running around the sides of the tents continously. I was only two years old. My mother couldn't even get me out. My kid neighbor's father had to pull me out. Now, I won't even walk by one if I'm walking down the sidewalk. I have to cross the street. My friends think it's pathetic, but I can not help it. I hope one day I get over this.

I am also terrified of squirrels. I am glad to know it's not just me. I work at a hospital and our grounds are like a college campus with huge trees and lots of bushes and grass....and lots of SQUIRRELS. Huge fat ones. We have long term care patients and they feed the squirrels so now the squirrels aren't afraid of anyone. I've seen patients outside in wheelchairs with food allowing the squirrels to climb on their laps and eat nuts and whatever else they are eating. It's like they are just waiting to attack me.

I thought I was the only one. The most embarassing moment was when my class was outside on the campus lawn and a squirrel ran up to the circle of students. I freaked out and ran into the building. I always pass these things on campus and I look stupid trying to avoid them. Even my husband laughed when he first found out, first hand, of this fear. Is there anyone who cures these kinds of phobias? It is very embarassing. My phobia started at five years old when I was scratched on the chest by a squirrel using me to jump into a tree.

I have feared and hated squirrels for as long as I can remember. When I was in college, there were squirrels in Madison that would store walnuts and (seriously) hot dog buns on the battery and engine of my car. I would have to pop open my hood and clear away the stored nuts and buns.

A few years later I had a nightmare that as I lie in bed there were squirrels clinging to the wall above the headboard of my bed. Their claws held them flush to the wall and their beady eyes were staring right at me. When I tried to scream for help nothing came out. It was TERRIFYING.

I think they are very dangerous. I'm glad other people can see this and hopefully people will stop feeding the evil little rodents.

I am terrifyed of squireels beond belief, they're so frightening thwy are so small but so eveil. they watch me all the time, i know its sounds crazy but i have to look behind my back everytime i walk out side and if i see one ill go back insode untill it goes away, and im only lucky when soemone is with me so they can chase them away for me. It's gotten worse ove rthe years, becasue the fear just keep getting worse and worse.i just hate them so much and im glad i found out there's other people that understand what the fuck im talking about.

ok thank god i saw david's response. Although i sympathize with everyone who just finds them scary in the prospect of them attacking...i for one have experienced the reality and its not fun.

I WAS ATTACKED BY ONE when i was 8 years old. i was on a nyc sidewalk watching a squirrel in a tall tree in front of my house. it jumped out of the tree and came flying about 40 feet down and landed on my back. i ran for my life and the squirrel fell off, but CHASED me into my backyard and was hissing at me until someone let me into the house.

people were around to see this, so no i'm not crazy. but admittedly, i'm losing my mind with the damn things now. I'm 24 and i feel it just gets worse. I'm a pretty tough girl and these dumb things have completely defeated me. Everyone thinks i have to get over it, but i seriously can't deal. They show up and head straight towards me. They sneak up on me all the time and although i've laughed at myself for thinking that, its becoming more and more of a reality to the point that even other people have to admit that i must just have some sort of scent or energy that makes them come after me specifically.

i'm trying to find out if maybe there is some scent they dont like. it seems they'll get used to anything from what i've read.

i'm told as a baby one came through my apt window and was in my crib when my mother walked in. I've also had one do some CRAZY hand gestures at me while standing next to a squirrel that had been run over. I'm still convinced it thought i did it. And trust me I know how insane all of this sounds, and in some ways maybe i'm half-joking. but nothing else in my life makes me RUN SCREAMING. Obviously i cant do it all the time, so i have to just scream then stay very still, or stomp at it. i dont know. i have to live my life and these evil monsters are coming out in full force all over my city. hellllllp

Finally, people that can relate to my fear of squirrels. It all started when i was 5 years old. My mom and I were walking to the mall and the nasty little beast was standing in the middle of the sidewalk. As we approached he came towards us. He backed us up for two blocks, back into our house. He then proceeded to put his filthy little paws up on the screen. Yuck! My life has continued to be plagued with squirrel happenings-none of them pleasant. As I enter middle age I hope my fear subsides. I was recently in Florida and came across a "monkey squirrel". Beautiful I must say, could this be king of the squirrels? I gazed at him and told him he was beautiful in an attempt to honor the squirrel gods and make them leave me alone. I will let you know.

all of my friends laugh at me too and mimick those things to make me scared..... it is becoming really drastic and i get panic attacks all the time, even just talking about them and reading these comments makes my body tense up and my heart starts racing... i really did not think anyone else had this. is anyone this serious?? i mean panic attacks and everything. i feel really terrible for some of these stories... i always made fun and said " oh they are evil and takin over the world!" freshman year of high school, and the past year and half i began feeling a fear inside of me. well it jus got worse from there :o( i told my friends i found this website and pointed out that other people get laughed at to and its not nice!!! thanks for listenin! x's an o's

omg! i am only 15 and i have the fear too. i even have a story behind mine...i dont exactly remember how old i was but when i was very younger, i was chased by some squirrels. everyone in my family finds it funny and my friends all laugh at me wen i scream or run or suddendly begin to walk in the street when i see them but i am really afraid. my boyfriend tells me all the time that they won't harm me, but come on, they CHASED me! they're just so small and so fast! like little mice with bigger fluffy tails. they scare the living day light out of me, glad to know im not alone tho :]

Everyone i know laughs at me for being afraid of those furry things that bounce around. I am absolutely terrified of them and everyone does their best to make little noises and such at me whenever i see one. now if it was a more comon phobia they wouldn't be too quick to judge how i felt. I'm just glad that there really is a name for this fear and that I'm not alone. so there, I'm not as crazy as you make me think. ha.

I suffer from this as well. The other day is when i came to realizing that i had this disorder, I was at the park. and just sitting down a squirrel cam to about a foot away from me and my heart nearly stopped it just kept staring at me as though it was going to do something to me. so i left and everwhere i would go there would be squirrels i was scared out of my mind and didnt know what i should have done. so i took my camera out hoping for the flash to scare them away and it only made my problem worst, as i was trying to scare off a squirrel with the flash, another comes from a tree behind me and started to chase me. I have no clue as to of why this happened to me but it made me come to realize that i have a huge fear of squirrels.

I am currently in the process of diagnosing a coworker with skioorophobia and have read some the passages left here. He is in denial, but lives in a world of uncertainty, all due to the existence of squirrels. He feels they are out to get him and he lets it control every aspect of life, including not wanting to be outside for very long, in case a squirrel sneaks up on him. I do not know if there is help for him or not. Has anyone discovered a way around this phobia so that they now acknowledge how wonderful, cute, and energetic God's little gift to trees is?

Omg I am horrified of squirrels, my best friend lives in an area were they roam freely ready to attack. I've been chased by them numerous times and I get anxiety attacks everytime one comes near me. My friends make fun of me & laugh about it, but I don't find it humerous. My friend was filming me with her phone and got a nice video of me getting chased by a squirrel da size of a small car (atleast that's what it seemed to me) Once, 4 squirrels blocked my path on the side walk, and procceded to chase me. One even chased me into her building. I no longer walk around were she lives alone, but instead make sure im always with someone who will chase them away from me. I really wish my fear of those little mutants will go away; or atleast for them to stop controlling my life. Im only sixteen and im sick of everyone laughing at me like its a joke...help.

So yeh...I am also terrified of squirrels...when I see them I just start bauling n cant stop its really scary...n my friends laugh n think its funny....anyways I was coming out of the dorm at college n was walking under this tree, n all of a suden i feel this boing boing boing on the top of my head and i looked up and there is this squirrel jumping on this branch that is hitting me in the head!!! ong i thought i was the only one! im 14 and my friends and family don't realize how scared i am. i love rock-climbing and roller-coasters but when i see squirrels i either freeze or run. there is an extended family living in my oak tree and i swear they only terrorize me. if anyone else goes to chase them away they will run but if i go outside they just stare at me and wont move no matter what i do. my mom came home one day and i was standing in the driveway with tears running down my face, afraid to move or make a sound because one was standing two feet away. i think they can smell fear!

I have a crippling fear of squirrels to the extent that when one recently got into my roof space I had to move out. I could not get over the prospect of one coming up the pipe system when I was on the toilet. I hate those bloody furry rats.

haha thats so weird. i was in the park today with my girlfriend and like three squirrels randomly ran towards us and i flipped shit and hid while she scared them away. i didnt know this was an actual fear that people have. im just happy to see that some people understand me, unlike my girlfriend who just made fun of me.

Im in high school and live in a 'go nowhere' town. I don't know why but Ive always been alarmingly afraid of squirrels. Last year we had a softball game and I played catcher. Like I said before, I live in the middle of no where so there's a lot of wildlife and forests around. Well it's the 7th inning and the game is tied. All of a sudden... a squirrel falls a from a power line that hangs over the field (dont ask why the power line is there because I sure as heck dont know) and it lands right beside second base. Brianna pitches the ball and it smacks me right in the chest! The squirrel starts running towards our dugout so I sprinting as fast as I can with all that gear on.. I was crying and ran like half a mile before they stopped me... so embarassing.. Everytime I see one cross the road I nearly wreck I stop so quickly.. but anyways thats my story..

I'm deathly afraid of squirrels and told a friend who is getting his PhD in clinical psychology. He reassured me that this phobia is completely cureable with behavioral therapy. I'm considering going to a psychologist who specializes in behavioral therapy.

On another note, I have another friend who was afraid of snakes and was able to rid her fear with some therapy.

i'm 15, and my fear of squirrels has ruinied parts of my life, mainly social, i can't go out at night to outdoor parties because anything squirrel related could happen, and when around trees i'm constantly watching my back.
i also could never go on 'outdoor trips' with parents and stuff when i was younger.
on bad days, i have trouble even saying the word, and i normally freak at even a picture.
i'm so glad to have found other sciurophobic people though :)

OMG!! finally people who understand what it is like to be deathly afraid of these squirrels!!! My friends all laugh at me and say I crazy and so does my mom. They all think its eay to get over but its not!! I had a terrible dream about one that not only killed me but killed a cop!!! I can't stand them!!

Three years ago I was chased by a squirrel at camp. I couldn't run fast because I was carrying a string bass and an electric bass. I managed to scare it off by kicking a can at it.
Since then, I have been terrified of squirrels. For instance, I was dropping off a scholarship to a woman and a squirrel came up next to me. That nutjob feed the stupid thing. I was petrified, but I tried to remain calm. As soon as she closed to the door, I ran to my car and locked the door. Was that unreasonable?

not really afraid of squirrels per say. just really dont like them. they are agile and always look like they are up to something. i'm not afraid of an indvidual squirrel but a group of them. if i see a squirrel i instictivly throw whatever is at hand. its nice to see others have the same problem. people make fun of my fear but i cant really understand why. people accept the fear of rats as a normal thing but squirrels are like super rats. just cos they have a bushy tail everyone thinks they are cute and harmless. ranting again sorry. nice to know im not alone

I hate squirrels!!!! everyone thinks im just kidding but i am really scared of them.When me and my mom first moved into our house about 4 years ago i was in the background and one chased me.It tried to bit me and jump on me and it wasn't even raib(cant spell)!!!!I hate squirrels!!! i always tell my mom to try to hit the squrriels if they run in front of the car.
